Powerdale’s charging terminals for smart electric vehicles made a strong impression on GDF SUEZ’s New Ventures investment fund

Sustainable mobility

In August 2014, GDF SUEZ acquired a 33% equity stake in Powerdale, a young Belgian company specialized in producing and operating charging points and poles for smart electric vehicles. Meeting with Powerdale’s CEO: Hugues Dhaeyer.

“Green energy is not a real-time system, you must store it. We believe that electric vehicles’ batteries are an effective means to do so”, says Hugues Dhaeyer, founder of Powerdale, to whom the stakes involved in batteries are the sinews of the energy efficiency war that cities now have to fight.

The “CarPlug” designed by this young and innovative company is a single or dual charging point or pole for electric vehicles, aimed at private or corporate fleets, which can be installed inside or outside homes and offices.

450 terminals have already been installed, mainly in Belgium and France, in company car parks, shopping malls or private homes. Compatible with all rechargeable vehicles, the terminal allows up to 60% extra charge speed than the vehicle’s standard cable.

For better energy management, the “CarPlug” also features full energy consumption reports in a detailed dashboard and remote load monitoring possibility, whenever necessary. The aim is to make optimal use of infrastructures and reduce the direct and indirect costs linked to the extensive deployment of electric vehicles.

The GDF SUEZ New Ventures fund aims at supporting the strategy of companies that have reached pre-production development stage. Powerdale now has the capacity to develop this highly strategic market.
