Disruptives technologies will also be the theme on December 7, as ENGIE, alongside thousands of other companies, startups and visionaries, will convene virtually for the 5th edition of Asia's leading technology innovation and enterprise festival, Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH).
Excited to join forces with other like-minded innovators
from around the world, we will be sharing our vision of a more sustainable
future, including a live keynote
presentation of ENGIE Factory APAC on our mission to accelerate the transition
to a zero-carbon society by partnering with startups and aspiring founders to
build the next generation of sustainability ventures. The keynote will share
strategies of our proven corporate venturing and business model innovation,
while ENGIE Factory will also be hosting a fireside chat with 3 startup
founders to share how they’ve successfully launched their startup through our
venture build program.

ENGIE FACTORY’S CORPORATE VENTURE BUILDING
In late October, ENGIE Factory announced a Memorandum ofUnderstanding with te Singapore Economic Development Board New Ventures group
to launch a portfolio of new zero-carbon startups over the next three years. The agreement aims to establish
Singapore as a hub for sustainable innovation in Asia.
- Green Venture Strategically located in
Singapore, the ENGIE Factory APAC hub creates collaboration opportunities for
startups and ENGIE teams in South East Asia and Australia. The focus areas of
our venture arm are in energy efficiency, smart cities, green mobility and renewable energy. Since
ENGIE Factory’s launch in February 2019, we have developed 7 new ventures and
tested 10 technology solutions from existing startups.
- Corporate venture building This is the
core of ENGIE Factory’s activity, a process by which corporates can build
entirely new venture-grade companies that (i) operate in large markets, (ii)
develop a unique value proposition, and (iii) create specific digital products
to serve their customers.
- 3-Month Process ENGIE Factory runs two
cohorts per year with two ventures each. The process starts with a series of
opportunities or problem statements that were identified with the business,
combined with a dedicated founder and structured 3-month process involving
hundreds of customer interviews. At the end of the process, the team delivers
an investment note, often with a first pilot customer identified, to establish
the new company and start building the product.

OFFGRID RENEWABLE
ENERGY PLATFORM
Also in Singapore, ENGIE has inaugurated a SPORE(Sustainable Power for Offgrid REgions) platform on Semakau island to test and
scale new green technologies.
- Living
laboratory In collaboration with Nanyang Technological University’s Energy
Research Institute and Schneider Electric, the site is aimed to become a living
lab, used by ENGIE and its partners to test different renewable technologies
including green hydrogen.
- Microgrid
The SPORE will also feature a 100% renewable microgrid that generates 650 kW of
electricity combining integrated renewable energy sources and storage
solutions. It already boasts the largest wind turbine in Singapore, as well as
a hydrogen full chain system for electricity and mobility.
- Learning
Center ENGIE’s vision is rooted in the testing and scaling low-carbon
solutions in real, tropical conditions, which could ultimately serve as a
learning hub for industry and professionals.
