To store excess wind energy, this technology makes use of a pump which empties the water contained in an underwater concrete sphere; electricity is released by a turbine which refills the sphere with ocean water.

This technology, among others, will be evaluated in the European project FORWARD2030. Development of new bio concrete and 3D concrete printers in collaboration with Holcim could increase the interest in this technology. For now, there isn’t enough deep offshore wind farms to create a significant breakthrough.
