ENGIE's Columbus "Power to Methane" project wins the Febeliec Energy Award 2020

The Febeliec Energy Award 2020 awarded to the Columbus project in collaboration with ENGIE Generation Europ, Carmeuse and John Cockerill

Belgium - On 2 February2021, Febeliec, the Federation of Belgian Industrial Energy Consumer, presented the Febeliec Energy Award 2020 to the Columbus project, a collaboration between ENGIE Generation Europ, Carmeuse and John Cockerill to produce a carbon neutral industrial fuel from C02.

The Columbus project allows the combination of the "fatal" CO2 captured during the Lime production with green hydrogen from renewable energy to produce carbon neutral synthetic methane (called "e-methane").

The produced e-methane will be high-quality, suitable for injection into the national natural gas grid. This renewable e-methane can be used by industrial users or as an alternative fuel in the transport sector, thus allowing these sectors to decarbonize.
