Call for projects related to Social Innovation and the Energy Transition

On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.

For the goals to be reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, the private sector, civil society and people like you.

ENGIE Brazil is organizing the 4th edition of the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Award and is looking for innovative solutions related to Social Impact business that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

Your project / solution must address one or more of the following goals : 

• Good health & wellbeing
• Clean water & sanitation
• Affordable & clean energy
• Industry, innovation & infrastructure
• Sustainable cities & communities
• Responsible consumption & production
• Climate action

The winner will participate to ENGIE Innovation Week and will be invited in Paris during this international event.

Files submitted for the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Award 2018 must be in Portuguese even if the application form is in English.

Rewards and benefits for the winning project

Based on the jury´s ranking, the general management of ENGIE Brazil will award the winner with:

• Pitch the winning solution during the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Day 2018, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, on May 2nd, in the Museum of Tomorrow. The event will be open to the public and will count with the participation of authorities, entities and companies in a debate panel about the importance of innovation in the world and in Brazil.
• Tickets to Paris and accommodation for the project manager (specified in the application) + one team member, to participate in the Group international innovation event, the ENGIE Innovation Week, which will take place from May 22nd to June 1st 2018.
• Testing and evaluating the project in order to develop a partnership with ENGIE to implement the project if applicable and based on the proponent interest.

For whom is this call?

If you are a company, start-up or entrepreneur with a technological or commercial innovative solution, which is:

• configured as a Social Innovation and contributes to at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Objectives listed in the first paragraph, 
• based in Brazil and/or is applicable in the country, you can submit your project and compete for the Prize. 

ENGIE Employees from any subsidiary and employees from the Award supporter entities are not eligible to participate.

Eligibility & Evaluation Criteria

• Solutions based or deployable in Brazil.
• Files submitted must be in Portuguese, even if the application form is in English.
• Innovative character of the project
• Feasibility (analysis of success factors and potential difficulties) 
• Degree of Implementation
• Potential for value creation

ENGIE Employees from any subsidiary and employees from the Award supporter entities are not eligible to participate.

Conditions of application and participation

Language: Files submitted for the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Award 2017 must be in Portuguese, even if the application form is in English

The application form must include the responses to the various project evaluation criteria. To be declared admissible and to facilitate the analysis and evaluation of projects, each applicant must attach to the application form a word or pdf file containing following information and items:

• A summary containing 5 items (title, background (300 words), key innovative aspect of the project (40 words), description of the innovation (300 words), recorded results (300 words), implementation/feasibility (300 words).
• Additional attachments (no more than five pages) giving a detailed description of the innovation, while describing the project in terms of each of the evaluation criteria. Better scores will be awarded for each criterion if quantified data are provided, in addition to any information that enables verification of such data. Any acronyms and abbreviations must be explained.
• One illustration of the project must be attached. It must not exceed 1 MB. Videos can be sent attached to the file through a link to a website. Short videos can be uploaded as an attachment to the submission.

Application forms that do not comply with the above requirements will not be accepted. Furthermore, to facilitate the processing of entries, candidates are asked to respect the above submission procedure.

Confidentiality: Every project will be handled in complete confidentiality by those persons authorised to have visibility of their content, i.e. the members of the Jury. Only the Jury will have access to information relating to data indicated as confidential.

The communication between the Project team and the organizers of the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Award 2018 will be restricted to the Project manager specified in the application.

The winning project will be posted on the website https://innovation.engie.com/en. It is thus essential that the project managers stipulate the level of confidentiality of their projects.

Acceptance of the rules: The submission of a file for the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Award 2018 implies acceptance of these rules.

Provisional timetable

• Deadline for submissions: April 14th, 2018 at midnight GMT
• Disclosure of the winners: April 25th
• The winners will be awarded during the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Day 2017, which will take place on May 2nd, at 8h30 am at the Museum of Tomorrow, in Rio de Janeiro.
• 22 May-01 June: invitation to ENGIE Innovation Week in Paris for the winner (period to be defined).

The Grand Jury for the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Award 2018

For the 2018 edition, the Grand Jury for the ENGIE Brazil Innovation Award 2018 will consist of professionals from the following entities:
