In Singapore, ENGIE is testing the energy mix of the future

Lab Singapore is one of ENGIE’s four research centers. It represents the technical expertise of ENGIE Research & Innovation in the Asia-Pacific region and plays a key role in integrating strong R&D competence into the Group's commercial responses in the region. Lab Singapore has created the REIDS-SPORE multi-thematic multi-fluid demonstrator on the island of Semakau off the coast of Singapore, which they will showcase at Viva Technology via a digital journey on an interactive table.

REIDS-SPORE is a unique multi-energy research platform with generation and storage assets.

Our next challenge would be to maximize the potential of the platform and our insights from the platform, by using it for pedagogy, research projects as well as demonstrations of new technologies.

Could you present your project in a few sentences?

REIDS-SPORE is a research site operated by ENGIE in Singapore. It is a green multi-energy platform, a living lab for variety of decarbonization topics, research, and training center as well as a business enabler for ENGIE.

What will you present at Vivatech?

The interactive table version of REIDS-SPORE will be presented at ENGIE’s booth in Vivatech.
The REIDS-SPORE Journey provides a glimpse into the future of energy with an interactive platform showcasing decarbonization technologies. Clients gain insights into energy solutions, GHG savings, and can explore new scenarios. This platform serves to showcase ENGIE's capabilities by sparking curiosity and fostering business dialogues.

How is your solution innovative?

REIDS-SPORE is a unique multi-energy research platform with generation and storage assets, in addition to a Hydrogen power to power (H2P2P) system on Semakau island in Singapore. Artificial loads can be simulated based on the use case, in consideration. The digital layers on the platform and the flexibility of the platform for different use cases are utilized to generate insights in Smart Grid research. In addition, the platform is used for de-risking of novel technologies, and technology demonstrations relevant to ENGIE’s portfolio.
Additionally, REIDS-SPORE is also used as a platform for pedagogy through visits and learning journeys. The visitors get valuable insights into the different clean technologies, safety, asset integration, policy, and finance considerations for implementation of green projects.
REIDS-SPORE can thus be summed up as a research platform, a communication tool (through the interactive table experience), as well as a learning platform.

What do you expect from this participation in Viva Technology?

REIDS-SPORE is an ENGIE asset. Through the interactive table, any visitor at ENGIE’s booth will be able to experience the REIDS-SPORE journey virtually and discover some of ENGIE's decarbonization solutions. We also would urge the interested partners to reach out to ENGIE Lab Singapore for learning journeys that can be arranged for their organizations to delve deep into practical understanding of clean technology implementation. New technology developers interested in demonstrating technology on the platform (tropical region) are also welcome to reach out. In future (end of 2024), we plan to do Hydrogen training on the site, and that can be of interest to some of the participants of Vivatech as well.

If you were a historic innovation, what would it be?

If we were an historic innovation, we would be a multi-energy platform, with all different energy sources and storage options which can cater to any type of load while being perfectly efficient, and with net zero or negative emissions. An ideal “energy solution”.

What will be your next challenge?

Our next challenge would be to maximize the potential of the platform and our insights from the platform, by using it for pedagogy, research projects as well as demonstrations of new technologies.
