Reducing energy consumption in buildings through AI

Based on Artificial Intelligence, Vertuoz Control is an intelligent energy management solution for buildings that reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Frederic Gailliot, Marketing and Key Accounts Director for Vertuoz by ENGIE Solutions, who will be representing Vertuoz at the forthcoming Viva Technology trade fair, from 22 to 25 May 2024, tells us more.

Vertuoz Control requires only limited investment and can be deployed very quickly. It reduces energy consumption and improves comfort immediately.

Digital technology is a real accelerator of the energy transition.

Frédéric Gailliot

What does Vertuoz do for ENGIE Solutions?

We specialise in digital solutions for the energy performance of buildings. We support companies and local authorities who wish to reduce the energy consumption of their commercial buildings. For example, we work for schools, where managing intermittency on a room-by-room basis represents a major source of energy savings. Our solution has been deployed in 400 buildings, reducing consumption by 15 to 25%.

How does Vertuoz Control work?

Vertuoz Control relies on artificial intelligence and connected objects. By producing and consuming energy as closely as possible to the building's needs, our solution reduces energy consumption andCO2 emissions while improving thermal comfort for occupants. What's more, Vertuoz Control requires only limited investment and can be deployed very quickly - in just a few days for a site. It reduces energy consumption and improves comfort immediately. Finally, we monitor the smooth operation of the service as soon as it is implemented on the customer's premises.

What makes it innovative?

The use of AI in our daily lives is still relatively recent. Vertuoz Control is a solution that harnesses the latest technologies inconnected objects and AI.
As well as the technical innovation itself, what's interesting is that this is a mature innovation, i.e. it is associated to a solid business model. In fact, this is the real accelerator, the one that will lead to the development of this type of solution. The two are not mutually exclusive: reducing energy consumption, and therefore carbon emissions, also means making financial savings. Vertuoz Control has also been recognised by the Solar Impulse Foundation as an innovative and sustainable solution, with a positive impact on the planet, both environmentally and economically.

Specifically, what will you be presenting at Vivatech?

As artificial intelligence is not necessarily easy to grasp, we will present Vertuoz Control through tangible elements and examples of deployments. We're going to show how it works, in terms of asset management and feedback.

On this site, we talk about innovations. If you had to pick just one innovation for posterity’s sake, which would it be?

I would choose one discovery: Galileo's astronomical telescope, at the beginning of the17th century. It revolutionised our vision of the universe and I believe it symbolises the beginning of the scientific era and an approach based on observation and reason.

And after Vivatech, what will your roadmap be?

We will obviously continue to roll out our solution on different types of buildings, a wider range of buidings. There's a lot to be done to help our customers meet the challenges posed by the tertiary sector eco-energy decree and the BACs decrees. We want to get the following idea across: nowadays, digital technology is a real accelerator of the energy transition.
And when you consider the speed at which the latest technologies based on generative AI are being developed, the potential for improvement in this type of solution is still very great.
