Save water and energy with ILYA

Save water and energy with ILYA

Founded in 2019, ILYA is a Toulouse-based start-up committed to the energy transition, which it has decided to promote in a practical way by tackling shower-related water and energy consumption.  Showers are the biggest water consumers in the home, in a context of increasing water stress.  ILYA offers eco-friendly solutions for the bathroom that enable the general public to consume more responsibly and become more aware of the importance of consuming an increasingly scarce resource.  Winner of the Pépites des Pépite prize, of which ENGIE is a partner, ILYA has been invited to the ENGIE stand at Viva Technology from 11 to 14 June.  Simon Buoro, CEO of ILYA, tells us more.

ILYA's mission is to develop products that reduce the environmental impact of everyday actions, and in particular to reduce water and energy consumption in the shower.

Saving (hot) water in the shower means saving energy!

Could you tell us a bit about your company and what makes it innovative?

ILYA is a young company based in Toulouse that has been accredited as a socially responsible enterprise (ESUS). Its mission is to develop products that reduce the environmental impact of everyday actions, and in particular to reduce water and energy consumption in the shower. Through its two solutions, the Cyclic Shower and the ILO Sensor, ILYA aims to promote responsible ecology that is comfortable for users.

The Cyclic Shower is a closed-circuit shower system that recycles water during the recreational phase of the shower. Thanks to this cyclic mode, water and energy savings of 70% (on average) are achieved. ILYA has filed two patent applications for the Cyclic Shower, and it has won several innovation awards, including the 2022 EquipHotel Innovation Awards, and 2nd prize at Concours Lépine International Paris 2024.

The ILO Sensor is a tool for raising awareness of water consumption in the shower. It measures and displays water consumption in real time to raise awareness and make users more responsible in their use. The ILO Sensor is designed and manufactured in Occitania and won a silver medal at Concours Lépine International Paris 2024.

What will you be presenting at Vivatech?

We’ll have a demo model of the ILO Sensor, but we’ll also be on hand to answer any questions about the Cyclic Shower and the ILO Sensor.

What do you expect from Viva Technology?

At Vivatech, we’re looking for contacts to distribute our solutions in France and abroad, as well as investors to help us move into production. We’re featured on the ENGIE stand because we were the 2025 winners of the Pépites des Pépite prize, of which ENGIE is a partner.

What’s your next challenge?

ILYA’s main challenge in 2025 is to ramp up production of cyclic showers, and to expand our ILO Sensor business internationally. A real challenge for an industrial start-up in France today!

What question would you have liked me to ask you?

“How are saving water and saving energy connected?”

Showers are the biggest consumers of water in the home (40% on average), but also the second biggest consumer of energy (13% on average). Saving (hot) water in the shower means saving energy!

And that’s exactly what ILYA offers with our Cyclic Shower. By recycling water, it is not only water that is recycled. Energy is too! The recycling system keeps the water at a comfortable temperature, consuming less energy than that needed to heat the water in the hot water tank.

Visit the ENGIE stand (J39) at Porte de Versailles in Paris from 11 to 14 June to discover ILYA and all the innovative solutions that make ENGIE the leader in energy transition.
